MY ROLE

Lead UX Designer

OVERVIEW

APLUS Learning Center provides quality educational and tutoring programs for students between 3rd and 12th grade. APLUS was looking to commission a new platform that allowed them to register students, track students, have a grading platform, and allow students and parents to access their information all from one system. Prior to this new system, APLUS was using three out of the box solutions that required them to a lot of repeat work and manual data entry. The goal was to create a single platform that it all for them because traditional Learning Management Systems did not work for their unique needs.

CHALLENGE

This project was challenging in that it required me to completely immerse myself in trying to understand their existing processes and design a completely new solution keeping in mind their unique circumstances. No existing Learning Management Systems allowed them to register and manage their students in a single platform so I had to figure out how to architect a platform that reduced manual work and increased efficiency without affecting the current registration flow.

SOLUTION & IMPACT

Through my initial research, I was able to identify a number of manual processes that could easily be automated even without a new platform. I was able to take these findings and couple them with my understanding of their processes to create a new user experience that centered around the student and ensuring data was correctly captured.

Some key accomplishments thus far have included:

  • A restructured course catalog that allows for easy additions of courses
  • A record keeping system of parents, students, instructors, classes, and financials within APLUS
  • An informative registration process online that replaced manual in-person registrations
  • Eliminating security risks they were experiencing from their old platforms

This project went live on February 2021 with students registering for classes. The project was transitioned over to the in-house developer to help maintain the project moving forward.
